Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of giving an introductory talk on dark sky photography, with an emphasis on shooting landscapes with the moon and Milky Way as backdrops up in Douglas, MI. This was part of the first Saugatuck-Douglas  Dark Sky Week 2026 event up in Douglas, MI. Researching and putting together the presentation, I learned a few new things about dark skies, and various initiatives around the county to encourage the establishment of dark sky areas, and mitigation efforts for minimizing light pollution. We had a small but engaged group of people in the audience, and overall I had a really good time.
